› Over four hundred students
from grades four through twelve are involved with the Caribou music program.
› In addition to the three main ensembles, the Band, Chorus, and Strings, students in the middle school
may join the CMS Jazz Band and the CMS Show Choir. High school
students may take part in the Jazz Band, Jazz Choir, and the Jazz
Combo.
› The three main ensembles at the high school meet during the same
lunch period each day. Students are able to be involved in both the
band and the chorus, by alternating which group they attend on
specific days. Because the high school has only one large room designated for the
music department, the band is the only ensemble that is able to meet in
the band room. Therefore, the chorus practices in the Caribou
Performing Arts Center and the strings practice in the Athletic Training
Room.
› Eighteen years ago, when the student enrollment at Caribou High School was around eight hundred students, the band and chorus both consisted of about sixty members. Over the years the school enrollment has dropped. There are about five-hundred and fifty students enrolled for the 2003-2004 school year. However, the number of students involved with the music program has not followed that trend. As the school numbers have decreased, music participation has increased. For the 2003-2004 school year, the chorus has about seventy-five members and the band has about ninety.

"Our schools tend to refine intellects but neglect to discipline emotions. For anyone to grow up complete, music is imperative." |
